This week Splash Stars are raising money for Millie’s Trust! All of our little stars and their parents are coming to their lessons dressed in PJ’s and taking part in some fun and informative lifesaving lessons which will provide them with some vital skills.

Millie’s Trust was established by Joanne and Dan Thompson, following the tragic loss of their daughter Millie aged 9 months in a choking incident at nursery in October 2012.

Millie’s Trust raises awareness of paediatric first aid and provides free first aid courses to anyone responsible for a child under 12 months or is expecting.  They also provide a 12-hour Paediatric course for nurseries to ensure more nursery staff becomes trained.

We really wanted to do some fundraising for this charity as we believe the work they do is invaluable and extremely worthwhile and this fits in really well with our lifesaving week as we are equipping our students and their parents with lifesaving skills and knowledge that could potentially save their life.

During the lessons we will be teaching age appropriate skills that will vary from teaching our babies to hold on to the side and move to a point of safety by using key words that we use within our programme for example, ‘turn turn turn’ and ‘hold on’ to teaching our toddlers what to do if they were to fall in to the pool.

With summer approaching we hope that these lessons not only arm your children with vital knowledge but they also give them the confidence needed to enjoy the water and treat it with respect.

Please look out for further information about our fundraising efforts this week along with photographs of our lessons.
